Today on the way home from school…we passed this rundown neighborhood. as we came to a stop sign.. there was this skinny woman with dirt and cuts all over her. And sitting beside her was this little child who was almost just as skinny. My first thought was ‘Why hasnt that kid been taken away from her?’ In most cases the child would have been. My heart squeezed in sadness for them because the saddest part was that the mom was way to skinny and had clearly been giving all her food to her smaller son. As we were about to pull off a boy on the bus jumped up and ran to the front of the bus and demanded that the bus driver let him off. She told him if he got off he couldnt get back on. He got off. He ran over to the woman and took his wallet out and handed the woman a $50 dollar bill. The woman looked about ready to cry…as was I. She hugged the boy from my bus and I watched in amazement as 2 more students got off and also handed her money as did about 6 more. The bus driver looked clearly touched. She let the kids back on the bus and continued on.
I was crying by this point because as she drove passed the mother and child…we could see the mom hugging her child and sobbing in happiness. I felt terrible for having no money to give her but still…I felt lighter and was happy the rest of the day..because I know that not everyone in this world is bad.
